Robinson Crusoe in a crowded island

When you pass the streets of this rugged clime

When your death the clock begins to chime

When you know that this is that time

And when you want to hear, “All is fine”

Who will console you when you are in

The nadir of despair?

Who will run and shout that

‘This is not fair’?

You are alone, so pick up the strands

A Robinson Crusoe in a crowded island

Athena’s curse may fall upon you

Even if you upon your word shall remain true

Spider webs of jealousy and like crew

Shall in this giant dwarf begin to brew.

In this time of ego and pride

Who shall be Eleus?

And your very qualms

Who shall refuse?

You are alone, so pick up the strands

A Robinson Crusoe in a crowded island.

When in a prideful moment, you a Raja,

Went and insulted Durvasa

When curses and evil give you trauma

When prayers won’t save you, nor mantras

Who shall be the Deva

Who shall go and beg at His feet?

Who shall be the man

To clear you of this conceit?

You are alone, so pick up the strands

A Robinson Crusoe in a crowded island.

When misplaced devotion knows no bounds

When faith and confusion abounds

When doubt and prayers sorround

When what you do always rebounds

Who shall be Jesus?

Who shall point the way?

Who will in this time so late

Teach you how to pray?

You are alone, so pick up the strands

A Robinson Crusoe in a crowded island.

And when the girl you love turns you down

When whatever you do is treated with a frown

When to the whole world you are a smileless clown

When in dry wells you have to drown

Who shall be the saviour?

Who shall teach you to live?

Who shall always be beside you?

Who shall the tension relieve?

You are alone, so pick up the strands

A Robinson Crusoe in a crowded island.

Thats it.

1- For those who don’t know, Mumbai is an island.

2- Cannot help you with Robinson Crusoe if you have not read it. Read it, it is incredibly famous.

3- This is as much a testament to mythology as it is a poem, it has two stories that have always been very significant to me.

The Athena thing refers to her story with Arachne. Athena is the Greek Goddess for a whole lot of things, including weaving. Arachne, a human, became very proud of her weaving skills. One thing lead to another till Arachne and Athena had a weaving contest. Athena weaved a (what do you weave anyway) picture of her conflict with Poseidon. Arachne weaved a lot of pictures of the God’s indiscretions, (in which Zeus, of course, appeared promenently) Athena lost, and in her fury, headbutted Ariadne. If you have never been headbutted by a Goddess, know that it is very painful. Arachne was stunned. Anyway, Athena felt pity on her (Eulos is the Greek Goddess of mercy) and turned Arachne into a spider. That is why, according to the Greeks, spiders weave stuff.

The other one is more common. Jesus, (You know him, right?? :O ) was going left right centre making miracles. His disciples, lead by Joseph went and asked Him why they couldn’t do all of them. So he explained to them how to make the miracles. All you need to make a miracle is to have faith in your faith, and the rest is, as they say, history. ( 1 A.D, sometime like that)

The hindu one is a typical Hindu mythology. They all begin with Durvasa cursing someone, so its pretty general. 😛 😛
